10th Annual !!!! It's that time of year again and this hamfest will be the BEST EVER!!!! Bring the family for a vacation to Corpus Christi (you know you need it!) and come enjoy the largest hamfest in South Texas. We have commitments from a number of vendors to show their wares, great raffle prizes (how about a brand new Icom 706MkII G as the GRAND PRIZE!!), good food, great ham friends and outstanding forums that you have to be there to see. On-line registration will be available through October 24th. You can register on the 2008 Hamfest web site and get all the latest information and schedules for events and forums. 
Corpus Christi George West 147.060 146.980 Received from Bill Oglesby - On July 22, 2008, the first stage of an Amateur Radio Public Service Project that began three years ago was completed. The 147.060 repeater, located near Violet, is now linked to the 146.980 repeater, located near George West. The participants in the Project are Gene Chapline, K5YFL, Bill Oglesby, WA5MPA, Bill Chapman, K5GGB, and Don Nattinger, who is not a Ham but is the major contributor of time, dedication, equipment acquisition and technical ability to make the Project happen. This Project is intended to provide enhanced emergency and backup communications in conjunction with interoperability communications along the I-37 Hurricane Evacuation Route out of Corpus Christi. The link between the two repeaters is intended to be left connected, or “up”, full time. If there is a need for individual traffic on each repeater at the same time, the link can be disconnected, or put in the “down” condition. To connect the two repeaters simply transmit a short DTMF “*” on either repeater. To disconnect the two repeaters simply transmit a short DTMF “#” on either repeater. Hams are encouraged to make use of this link system under non-emergency time in order to routinely verify the system’s functionality. A mobile or a portable with a little antenna height should now have communications from the Corpus Christi area to well beyond George West on I-37. Remember, “*” UP and “#” DOWN. Please use this link system’s capability courteously and appropriately. To report malfunction of the link system please email Bill Chapman at k5ggb@arrl.net or Bill Oglesby at wa5mpa@arrl.net. NOTE: Specifically for the repeater it is 147.06 transmit/ 147.66 receive. A mobile has to transmit on 147.66 with a tone of 107.2 Hz with a deviation of at least 300 Hz to access. The repeater does transmit 107.2 tone, if one wants to keep out intermod on their radios. Bill Oglesby, WA5MPA FYI, Field testing has shown radius on the link reaches up past Pleasanton down to about the spot the 147.060 picks up. So this means continuous coverage while traveling North and South on I-37 almost to San Antonio! GREAT JOB GUYS!!!  Help
Stop Restrictive CC&Rs More and more hams live in residential subdivisions governed by deed restrictions, sometimes known as Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions (CC&Rs), that prohibit the operation of ham radio stations and that prohibit the erection of ham radio antennas. 1pm Field Day 2008 is in the books and everyone had a great time. Thanks for all the effort put into the event by a good group of people. Not as many contacts as in the past, but we spent A LOT of time talking with all the visitors that showed up to learn about amateur radio and get Technician books so that they can study for their test. The Field Day 2008 web page has been updated with some of the pictures taken (if you have some you would like to share, please contact n0wzh@stx.rr.com). We'll also update the page with the scoring and a write-up when available. Field Day 2007 has all the latest pictures and the tally of the score.

It is time to pay club dues for 2008. Full Memberships are $20 per year. Each additional family member at the same mailing address is only $4 per year. You can pay your dues in a number of ways. 1. At a club meeting.
STARC is proud to announce that we have added the capability to accept payments for Dues & Donations using PayPal. PayPal is a safe and secure way of sending payments over though the internet. Thanks for helping support the activities of the club.
