Field Day Report by Steve, W2MY

The South Texas Amateur Radio Club held its Field Day this year at the Padre Island Yacht Club thanks to Chuck Hoffman, KE5BOK.  It was a very enjoyable event.  Accommodations were superb, as we set up in the air conditioned bar area on the first floor.  With the breeze the weather was very nice.  Among those not in the photos who visited us, helped,  and/or operated were Kevin Santine, AD5QU, Skip Kwasneski, KW5AS, Kathyrn DeMeulle, KF5EOU, Ric, K5RIX, Tom Blackwell, N5GAR, Jim Trammell, KE6DRE, Mark Mireles, AD5CA, Abraham Sims, KE5UFG, and Jab Murray, K5CNZ.

At the last minute during setup on Saturday morning we decided to set up inside the air conditioned bar area.  Most of the first floor is sheltered but open with very good cross ventilation, but the bar area was just too good to pass up.  We were very glad we did it.

At 11 pm Saturday I got a call from the Ted Randall QSO Radio Show wanting to know if I would agree to be interviewed about Field Day.  They called me back at midnight and I spoke to Ted Randall about field day for about 15 minutes.  At least this gave us our publicity points.

Steve, W2MY

This is the Yacht Club building. We were situated at the lower left. The flag pole held one of our dipoles. Here is a view of the marina. This is a northeast view of the marina from the second floor deck. This is the south view from the second floor deck toward the National Seashore. This is the northwest view from the second floor deck toward the Intracoastal Waterway. An R7 vertical is just visible in the photo. View of the second floor deck with our dipole on the flag pole. View of the flagpole and dipole. View looking northeast toward the tower trailer with a Yagi and fan dipole. Rear view where our generators were positioned. One Honda 2000i was enough for three HF stations. 300 Ohm feedline from the dipole. 300 Ohm feedline going into hole in door for missing deadbolt. Very convenient. Power cables are below. Closer view of the tower trailer. Inside bar area where we operated. One radio position is at the front left and the other two positions are at the right center and rear. From left to right.
