June 23 & 24

Field Day has come and gone.  Thanks to everyone that came out to participate.  More information and pictures will soon be posted.  Mark your calendar NOW for Field Day 2008 which will be June 28 & 29.

Preparation:
We had a work party on June 9th to work on some antennas and towers.  Thanks to everyone that came out to help!!!  Field Day is definitely a TEAM effort.

Putting a 10-15-20m Beam together for testing. More Construction Working on the crank-up tower Mounting the rotor Winching the tower up!!! Putting the bird's nest back after we are done.

Setup:
Field Day started on Friday morning for some, getting trailers loaded and out to the site.  Thanks to Mark - AD5CA for driving to Rockport to pickup the travel trailer DONATED (Free) by Camper Clinic for the weekend and then taking it back after the event.

After some of the equipment was on site, we had some hams volunteer for mowing duty. Thanks to Glyn - KD5PXB and Steve - W2MY for getting the site prepped for setup.

We had a good turnout for setting the towers and tents up.  We could have used some more help on Saturday morning getting the wire antennas up though.

Operations:

Saturday morning brought more rain to the event as you can see from some of the pictures below.  A couple of times, the wind was a little gusty, and we had to double check guy ropes and such, along with putting up some of the walls on the canopies to keep the rain out of the radios.

Everything was ready by the 1pm start.  We had a good group of people show up to help operate.

The rain finally stopped just in time to get the fire going for the evening meal.  We had BBQ Brisquet, Chicken, & Sausage, beans, potato  salad, deserts.  Yum Yum.  Thanks to everyone that brought the food.  You can't have a authentic Field Day without BBQ.  Believe it or not, we had a better score this year than last.  Who would have thought.  Now we just have to wait and see how we come out in the standings.

Glancing at the QSO rate graph at the bottom of the page, looks like we stayed busy for the whole 24 hours!  Not like some of the years where the bands close up or everybody takes a nap at 3am in the morning.  Must of had a lot of coffee & sodas available to keep everybody awake!
