June 25 & 26
Press Release sent to the media and Flyers Location: Field Day 2005 has come and gone. Not one of our best years for scoring, but we still had fun!!! This year mother nature cooperated and we were able to get some of the equipment on-site and setup on Friday night so that Saturday morning was not such a strain on us. Friday night, we got the trailer placed, the two canopies up and tied down, and three towers were in place with some antennas mounted. People started showing up Saturday morning to complete the tower and antenna installations. We also had to setup the computer network for the logging software. By 1pm, were ready to get the show on the road but the bands were in pretty bad shape where we were at but the CW guys were able to rack up a record number of CW contacts for the event with a total of 161 CW contacts. More scoring information will be posted here when we recover a little and get the logging software into a useable form for posting. Saturday night was much of the same except we had BBQ galore prepared by Glyn, KD5PXB. We could have fed the whole neighborhood. We continued operating through the night struggling to make contacts and pull people out of the noise. Most of the time, the noise floor was S9. Sunday morning, operators started rolling in and taking over for the night crew. Then about 10:30am, we notice a shower in the distance heading our way. James, AD5TC, and others started adding the walls to the canopies to try and give us a little more protection from the elements. The storm hit about 11am and we shut everything down due to the lightning in the area and tried to cover the electronics as best we could. Once the storm passed, we made a decision to pack it up and head to the house. Everyone pitched in and we had the site torn down and on the trailers by 2pm. We then followed the trailers to Mike's, KD5WZV, office and unloaded what was to stay there. We then went to Mark's, AD5CA, shop and helped him unload his trailer. A big thank you to everyone that came out to setup, operate, and tear down. It would not have been possible without everyone's support. I hope to see everyone at Field Day 2006, on June 24 & 25. Pictures: As mentioned above, we felt that we would not rate very high on the scoring, but we were mistaken. The results on the ARRL Web site show us coming in 1st in the South Texas Section in the 3A group. I guess it was bad for everyone. Below are some summaries of the event. This chart shows the number of contacts by mode, the total points by mode and the total claimed score from QSOs.
This chart shows the scoring of our bonus points.
Comparison to previous years.
South Texas 3A competition (no we weren't the only ones)
